I'm going to cut to the chase - if you follow The Wisdom's Grave series, drop everything and read it. If you follow Faust or Harmony Black series, drop everything and read it.Craig Schaefer has outdone himself. There are twists that twist the twists. When you lose hope, he gives it back to you just to take it away moments later.The book's resolution will have a huge impact on the whole Schaefer's shared universe.Bring the Fire is amazing. I loved the ending and I can't wait to see what happens next in Faust and Harmony's series.Mr. Schaefer - you're a brilliant and evil man. You know you're in for a ride when the first line of the book is "Trilogies have rules". The entire Wisdom's Grave trilogy is at its core an exploration of storytelling tropes wrapped in a cracking good heroic fantasy. And just as the Scribe says at the start of the book, this one follows the lines of an epic hero's quest. Or rather the epic quest of a Witch and her Knight to find Wisdom's Grave.One of the things which attracted me to this series (and all of Schaefer's writing) is that the Witch isn't a "Good Witch". Nope, she's very much a "Bad Witch". Which makes the story ever so much more delicious - there aren't ANY traditional "good folks" and "bad folks" here, just "complicated folks you like" and "complicated folks you don't like".And Schaefer wraps the entire thing in a meta discussion of storytelling and the nature of "Story". When I got to Chapter 43, I freaked out a big in delight (you'll understand my feelings, Dear Reader, when you reach that place in the Story).Well worth reading for not-so-heroic Heros and oh-so-villainous villains.
